TRUSTEE (VOLUNTARY ROLE)
Reading Almshouse Charity – “Housing with Heart”
Reading, Berkshire

Are you looking for an opportunity to use your skills and experience to make a genuine impact within your local community?

Reading Almshouse Charity is seeking new Trustees to join its dedicated Board and help shape the future of a long-established charity providing affordable homes and supportive communities for adults across Reading and Earley.

With roots dating back to the 19th century, Reading Almshouse Charity currently supports over 100 residents across three sites, offering safe, affordable accommodation for people able to live independently. Guided by their ethos of “Housing with Heart”, the charity is passionate about dignity, community, and creating lasting positive impact.

This is an exciting time to join the organisation as the Board continues to modernise, strengthen governance, and shape the future direction of the charity.

The Board would particularly welcome interest from individuals with experience in:

• Legal
• Property / Buildings
• Governance

However, applications are encouraged from people with a broad range of professional backgrounds and lived experience. Previous Trustee experience is not essential – enthusiasm, commitment, and a genuine interest in supporting the charity’s mission are equally important.

As a Trustee, you will work collaboratively with fellow Board members to provide strategic oversight, support good governance, and help ensure the long-term sustainability of the charity.

The role involves approximately four Board meetings per year, committee involvement, and reasonable preparation time. Meetings take place during the daytime in Reading.

Reading Almshouse Charity is keen to build a diverse and engaged Board that reflects the community it serves. Whether you are an experienced Trustee or considering your first Board appointment, this is an opportunity to contribute to an organisation making a meaningful difference locally.

This is a voluntary role, with reasonable expenses reimbursed.
