Finance Manager

Charity sector Manchester £40,000–£45,000 (FTE) benefits
Full-time (35hrs) or 4-day (28hrs) considered Hybrid (2 days remote)

Are you a finance professional who thrives on variety, autonomy, and purpose?

We’re working with a vibrant and impactful charity based in Greater Manchester to find a Finance Manager who can take ownership of a broad and rewarding portfolio. This is not just about month-end – it’s about meaning.

You’ll be the most senior finance person in the organisation, working closely with the CEO and leadership team to steer financial strategy, oversee day-to-day operations, and provide high-quality reporting and insight across the charity’s services, including grant-funded programmes and FCA-regulated loan schemes.

 What makes this role special?

  • Breadth of impact: You’ll lead on core finance functions and shape wider organisational reporting, governance and compliance.
  • Mission-driven work: The charity supports vulnerable people in tangible ways – your work enables real social impact every day.
  • A warm, flexible culture: Hybrid working (up to 2 days remote), flexi-time, family-friendly policies, and up to 10% employer pension contribution.
  • Leadership visibility: As a senior member of the team, you’ll be a trusted voice  – general management cover when required and liaising directly with funders, board members and council partners.
  • Genuine variety: From management accounts and audits to loan books, grant claims and environmental reporting, no two weeks are the same.

 Key responsibilities

  • Deliver accurate management accounts, budgeting and forecasting to the CEO, Board and funders
  • Support and supervise the Finance Officer to ensure daily processing and integrity of financial data (Sage 50)
  • Lead year-end audit preparation, statutory returns and reporting to the Charity Commission, Companies House and funders
  • Oversee grant invoicing and grant income tracking, ensuring compliance with funding contracts
  • Administer and report on council-backed loan funds, including credit control for vulnerable clients and FCA reporting
  • Monitor and improve financial processes, systems and policies
  • Support the charity’s green reporting commitments and integrate carbon monitoring into finance reports
  • Provide wider organisational support – acting as senior on-site manager when required

 What we’re looking for

  • 5 years’ experience in a Finance Manager (or equivalent) role, ideally in the charity, housing or not-for-profit sector
  • Full or part-qualified (ACCA, ACA, CIMA, AAT) or qualified by experience
  • Strong skills in financial management, reporting, audit preparation and system oversight
  • Confident in dealing with funders, auditors, councils, and regulatory bodies
  • Knowledge of grant funding and/or FCA-regulated lending highly desirable
  • Hands-on, proactive and adaptable – comfortable in a small but high-impact team
  • A collaborative, values-led approach with the willingness to “step up” when needed

The offer

  • Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 FTE (depending on experience)
  • Hours: 35 per week or 28 (4-day week)
  • Location: Central Manchester office, with hybrid working (up to 2 days remote
