A brilliant opportunity has come up for an experienced Finance Officer, Bookkeeper, or Assistant Accountant to join a supportive team and take ownership of day-to-day finance operations during a maternity cover contract. This role offers real flexibility: part-time hours, hybrid working after training, and a chance to join an organisation with real social impact, without needing prior charity experience.

What you’ll be doing

  • Manage accounts payable/receivable and cashbook transactions

  • Reconcile bank and petty cash

  • Process payroll through bureau and manage pensions

  • Oversee Sage 50 accounting system

  • Produce reports for SMT and budget holders

  • Support monthly and quarterly financial processes

What we’re looking for

  • Experience in a finance role (Finance Officer, Accounts Assistant, Bookkeeper, etc.)

  • Proficient with Sage 50 and confident working independently

  • A self-starter who can adapt to evolving processes

  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills

  • A team player happy to roll up their sleeves in a busy but friendly environment

  • Salary: £28,000–£32,000 pro rata, depending on experience

  • Hours: 21–28 hours per week – flexible working available

  • Location: Manchester, with office presence needed for first few weeks

  • Contract: 12-month fixed-term (with potential to extend to 14 months)

  • Start date: ASAP with handover planned
